I love love love all things warm & cozy! With fall rolling in I have started pulling out my favorite candles and room sprays (if you’re a B&BW “leaves” girl .. ya know). When I moved into my room there had been these random shelves stuck in the center of my closet that I struggled to find use for. I would alternate between using them to hold jackets, to jeans, to purses, and shoes. Nothing I ever put in it seemed to work for me.
I hated looking at my clothes folded on the shelves when I had drawers they could be in. I liked my shoes, but again, I would much rather them be organized and put off to the side than front and center in my closet. Finally I put my peacock themed box on the center shelf and then did nothing else with it for the longest time. The four shelves were so awkwardly placed it was hard to fit anything in them that I liked.
Over the summer I decided I wanted to begin displaying my jewelry for myself for a few reasons.
1. It brings me joy. There is nothing I like more than finding a piece of jewelry that not everyone has, or that can be stacked with another piece I already have to create a new look. I am all about things that bring me joy.
2. I was always tangling my necklaces up. It even got to the point of clipping them onto hangers to keep them in a row.
3. I was so unaware of just how much jewelry I owned. When I began organizing and laying it all out I was dumbfounded. Items I would not normally grab for became easily accessible and allowed me to rotate looks.
4. I have multiple pieces in my collection that first belonged to my GiGi and I get such a warm feeling inside when I put some of them on. She was always one of my biggest supporters, was an RN too and eventually a DON. I’m also her namesake; so you could say that the jewelry I have from her is pretty special to me and worth displaying.
Looking at that peacock box just taking up space I decided begin moving things around and started searching on Amazon for things that would help me create a look I was happy with! You’ll quickly learn I’m an Amazon addict … I moved the shelves around to create a large shelf in the middle and slightly smaller ones on top and bottom of it. The end result looks like this below! To see the process and links (non-affiliate) to the items I used keep reading!!
I knew I wanted some artwork in the background. I didn’t want to spend extra money on a print when I knew I would be moving out in another year or two, so I went digging through a stack of old canvases that I had done during a wine night with my friends! I chose this one of mouth because it was very muted in the background with a nice pop of color on the lips! I had trouble decided between this and another painting that actually looked good but I had gotten brave and put gold lettering over it which I was not a fan of.
I already had a bracelet holder that I decided to use. It is by Tahari designs and I used it for my day-to-day bracelets. The picture looks a little empty and off-centered, but thats because I’m wearing my usual/casual set today. The stand is a textured gray color that I haven’t seen often. I haven’t been able to find it online, but I like this acrylic bracelet holder. It’s has two rows like mine, but I also found this three-tiered bracelet holder that is velvet and comes in gray or black. Both are in the T-bar style and offer plenty of display room so you don’t have to crowd your jewelry.
Then I began searching for a set of drawers to hold my loose jewelry. I knew I would want to bring this with me when I moved out so I decided to look for a gray set! I ended up decided on a set of stackable compartments with a glass top that could be moved to display whatever I wanted. This set of sackcloth stackable jewelry trays allowed for easy access to just pull out whatever layer I wanted and was easy to customize with removable inserts. I placed it on the bottom shelf with my perfume bottles staggered on either side. I have been considering back-lighting the space to give it a warm glow in the evenings.
When I began filling the compartments I quickly realized the spaces I made for the necklaces were not large enough. I added more dividers and used it for bracelets I don’t wear often and jumped back on Amazon for a necklace holder. I found this one that is white and gold that looked so nice and had amazing reviews. Plus I could return it if I didn’t like it so why not? When it came in I was surprised at the weight of it.
I laid my necklaces out based on the look of the gold and the color stones used. Then on the length. I was obsessed. Clearly this stand was not going back! It was now a necessity.
I wanted to fill in the space on the shelf some more though. A good friend of mine had given me a mirrored decorative container years ago when he worked at a local boutique. It is the Vienna Octagonal Box by Two’s Company. I placed my favorite sunglasses inside and put it on the back of the shelf. I looked on the producer’s site and sadly it is no longer available. I have really been loving the look of mirrored trays though with the gold trimming like this one. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes to customize to your space.
Merci Beaucoup at Towne Center is my favorite boutique here in Baton Rouge. They offer jewelry dishes in small and large sizes and I chose a large one to be able to dump my jewelry in at the end of the day when I know I will be too lazy to actually put it up. They are cream with gold trim and are able to be customized with a monogram! I chose to leave mine without a monogram because I personally like the simplistic look of it.
All in all I love this part of my room now. When I need a relaxing night I put a candle in the middle of the shelf, turn the lights down, put on a face mask, and just take time for me. It feels like a spa, especially when I also use eucalyptus room spray from Bath & Body Works. I have begun understanding why so many people say the bedroom is meant to be an oasis.
If you made it to the end I appreciate you! I hope that maybe I provided you with some ideas for personalizing a space to fit your mood.
