Since graduating nursing school, I have been looking to pick up hobbies! I used to love being creative and creating things, so I thought I would start there. My sister, Savannah’s, favorite holiday is Easter. She loves to celebrate the sacrifice Jesus made, as well as the resurrection and salvation of our souls. I decided to make a wreath to gift her and my brother- in-law.
While scrolling one Pinterest one day I came across this picture of an Easter Bunny wreath shown below. I cannot find this pin anymore so I think the creator deleted it, but there are many others to use for a reference on Pinterest! If you continue following along, at the bottom you will find the final product on my sister’s door!
I could not get over how pretty this was! I knew I would be able to make something similar to this, I just needed to find some materials. Hobby Lobby was closed since it was a Sunday, but I have a Michael’s right down the road from me so I stopped there.
I grabbed medium, small, and spiral grapevine wreaths. In the floral section I found beautiful flowers and greenery, but our location was somewhat limited. I could not find large green berries like they have shown, or the pink ones, but I did find droopy white berries.
In the ribbon aisle I found a white ribbon with lace trimming like in the photo above, but they only had one left. My sister did not want any of the darker colors in her wreath because she wanted to keep it light and airy, so I opted for a champagne ribbon with white stitching up the middle instead of the checkered print.
** I love shopping at Michael’s because they always have coupons online! I used a 20% off coupon to buy all of this. It was still pricey, but I saved a good bit! Kirklands had beautiful greenery and flowers that I picked up with a coupon also. Look around for good deals around you before making decisions on where to shop!
When I got home I began fiddling with the spiral grapevine to see if I could make them into ovals since Michael’s didn’t carry any like in the picture above. (Side Note: My dad suggest that next time to wet them some to make them more pliable so the dry vine won’t break.) Once we got the vine shaped how we wanted, we used zip ties to cinch them together and then zip tied them again to the small wreath to make the ears.
The entire structure was held together with zip ties; the ears to the head and the head to the body. Then I started focusing on the fun part, decorating! The white lace ribbon I had picked up was shorter than I expected, so I used the full roll to create the base bow. Then I used the thinner champagne ribbon to create just a two loop bow to layer on top. I zip tied those together and set it to the side to come back to later.
Next I began piecing together greenery and florals. Savannah liked the roses, so I chose white, pink, and cream ones to include with greenery that had small mauve flowers in it. I layered these with reddish leaves and the white droopy berries. I found so many more flowers I would have like to of used, but they just did not look right next to some of the other pieces I had. I am saving them to use on wood rounds that I am making for loved ones.
Once I got them situated how I wanted, I zip tied each bundle together and then again to the body of the bunny. I think if I were to make one again, I would use floral wire to string together the greenery and flowers to be able to spread them further apart and add more. At this point, I used more of the champagne ribbon to cut extra strips to bulk up the bow and then made a knot to put over everything for a final touch.
I was able to hang the bunny directly on a command hook on our door, but floral wire or ribbon are other options to tie on the back of the bunny to hang it by. And that’s it! It is way easier than it looks, and is so much fun. Making the wreath was relaxing because it gave me something to focus on and gave me something to accomplish! Shown below is the Easter wreath hanging on my sister’s door!
